Our Processes Will Be As Transparent As Possible- Dr Dekil

Gladys Nweke

As part of its developmental plans in Ogoni land, the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project, HYPREP, has assured the youths that they will not be left out in the upcoming United Nations Environment Programme-recommended clean-up of oil-impacted communities in Ogoniland.

HYPREP Coordinator, Dr. Marvin Dekil, stated this when he addressed Ogoni youths at the HYPREP office in Port Harcourt.

Dekil informed the youths that the Federal Government had committed so much to ensure successful implementations of the clean-up.

He reiterated that award of contracts for the clean-up exercise will commence soon, assuring the youths that they will be carried along in the implementation of the UNEP Report on Ogoniland.

According to him, “the processes are very transparent and as possible, the involvement of youths in the implementation of the UNEP Report is a priority for the project.

“The Federal Government is committed to the implementation of this report. The Minister of Environment has shown great commitment and sacrifice from the inception of the project to this point in the implementation process.

“It is important to note that whereas there are some concerns by a section of the youths about the project, I want to state that we have done quite a lot within the last one year.

The HYPREP boss also assured that HYPREP is committed to the remediation of oil-impacted sites in Ogoniland.
