The 5th witness in the murder trial of the Jumia delivery agent, CHUKWUMA ELEJE, has testified at a High Court sitting in Port Harcourt.
The witness, a Police Sergeant (name withheld) attached to the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad FSARS tendered the statement of the first defendant SODIENYE MBATUMUKEKE to the court as evidence of their investigations.
He stated that the first defendant wrote the statement in their office when he was in police custody.
The first defendant, SODIENYE MBATUMUKEKE, however, denied writing the statement that was presented to the court. He stated that the statement was doctored.
The court led by Justice Igwe after hearing the witness testimonies adjourned the matter to 31st October for cross-examination by the defence counsel.
The accused persons, Sodienye Mbatumukeke and Rexcel Nabee are standing trial on charges of Murder and Armed robbery for the alleged killing of the agent, Chukwuma Eleje and dumping his body in a septic tank after allegedly delivering two iPhones to them.
Speaking to our correspondent, outside the court, the Director of Public Prosecution IBIKIRI OTOROBO said the prosecuting team brought another witness to prove their case to the court.
The lead counsel of the first defendant, KINGDOM CHUKWUEZIE said the defence counsel will now prepare for the cross-examination on 31st October.
