The Rivers State Cricket Team has commenced training for the zonal elimination ahead of the 2018 National Sports Festival at the Stephen Keshi stadium in Asaba from the 8th-13th October.
The Coach of the Rivers State Team for the National Sports Festival, Tamuno John, said Team Rivers started training on time to get the players ready for the zonal qualifiers.
He said that this festival will be an open one where professionals will be participating in the event.
He noted that the technical crew of the team has taken a step further to put the players in shape ahead of the task ahead of them.
Tamuno John said 43 players are currently in camp while stating that 16 players will make the final cut.
The coach stated that the players are in high spirit to make the state proud by qualifying for the main event at the National Sports Festival in Abuja.
”The players are in high spirit, they want to make the final cut. We have players across the state that are fighting for a place in the squad. The festival is an open festival, not a close one, so it means that professionals can actually take part unlike the former festivals where we have only local players who have not played internationals” he said.
”So this time around, the festival is going to be tasking and states are preparing hard to make sure they meet up with the challenges ahead of them and Rivers State Cricket Association has actually commenced training on time so as to cope with the task ahead” he stated.
