Airtel Nigeria has launched a digital platform that allows subscribers to view network coverage, signal strength, and infrastructure upgrades through its My Airtel Africa mobile application.
The Airtel Open Network platform was unveiled on Friday, October 30, 2026, in Lagos, making Nigeria the first of Airtel Africa’s 14 operating markets to introduce the consumer-facing transparency initiative.
The launch attracted key industry stakeholders, including the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr Aminu Maida, alongside media representatives and corporate executives.
The feature, now available to Airtel subscribers, displays nearby 4G and 5G network sites, locations undergoing upgrades and planned installations within a 500-metre radius of users.
It also allows customers to submit feedback on network performance directly through the application, providing the company with information to identify areas requiring improvements.
Speaking at the launch, Airtel Nigeria Chief Executive Officer, Dinesh Balsingh, said the platform was designed to give customers clearer information about the network they use and provide a direct channel for reporting service concerns.

He explained that the initiative translates complex network information into accessible details that can help subscribers make informed decisions about their connectivity.
In his remarks, NCC Executive Vice Chairman, Dr Aminu Maida, commended the initiative, describing it as a development that could complement the commission’s efforts to improve consumer confidence and service quality.
He stressed that the NCC would continue to assess operators based on evidence and established industry standards, urging telecommunications companies to improve service delivery beyond minimum regulatory requirements.
Airtel said subscriber feedback gathered through the platform would complement its infrastructure investments, helping its engineering teams identify areas where improvements in coverage, capacity and network reliability were most needed.
However, the company clarified that coverage indicators do not guarantee uninterrupted service, as factors such as building structures, indoor reception, handset specifications and network congestion can affect individual experiences.
Balsingh noted that while the platform would not automatically resolve every network challenge, it would improve access to information and make it easier for customers to report service gaps.
Airtel said it would begin a nationwide awareness campaign in the coming weeks, using digital platforms, retail outlets and traditional media to familiarise subscribers with the feature.
