The Nigeria Ethnic Forum in Rivers State has urged non-indigenes living in the state to participate in the 2027 general elections by taking advantage of the ongoing Permanent Voter Card (PVC) distribution by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The call was made in a statement signed by the forum’s leader, Chief Uchenna Okokoba, after a meeting attended by ethnic heads, community leaders, coordinators from the 23 local government areas and other stakeholders.
Okokoba said the 2027 elections would provide Nigerians, regardless of ethnic background, an opportunity to exercise their democratic rights and make their choices through the ballot.
He noted that non-indigenous residents, including Ndigbo, Arewa, Edo-Delta, Akwa-Cross, Yoruba and other ethnic groups, have important roles to play in promoting peace, development and prosperity in Rivers State.
The forum urged ethnic group leaders, community heads and LGA coordinators to intensify voter education, sensitisation and mobilisation to ensure eligible residents participate in the electoral process.
