The Chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State, Aboiya-a Bob-Fubara, has reaffirmed his commitment to improving education through effective teaching and learning.
He gave the assurance during the flag-off of a back-to-school tour of Oceania communities in the local government area.
Bob-Fubara said his administration would review the findings of the exercise and address the needs identified in the primary and secondary schools visited.
He stressed that every child in Akuku-Toru should have access to quality education, adding that the welfare and needs of teachers would also receive attention.
The chairman noted that feedback from the tour would help his administration identify challenges facing schools and determine areas requiring government intervention.
Earlier, the Adviser on Student Affairs, Alaba Jack, explained that the initiative was designed to assess school conditions, interact with teachers and students, and gather information on their needs.
Jack commended the chairman for sponsoring the programme, describing it as the first of its kind in the history of the local government area.
She said the exercise would go beyond the distribution of educational materials by providing an opportunity to obtain first-hand information on the challenges confronting schools.
The tour, organised by the Office of the Adviser on Student Affairs, is scheduled to run from Wednesday to Friday.
Students in Kula, Abissa, Soku, Elem-Sangama and Idama communities are expected to benefit from the distribution of writing materials and customised school bags sponsored by the council chairman.
The exercise is also expected to help the local government identify educational needs in the benefiting communities and determine areas requiring further support.
