President Bola Tinubu has approved an 18-month extension of the tenures of the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Sylvester Nwakuche, and the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap.
The extension will keep Nwakuche in office until May 26, 2028, while Nandap’s tenure has been extended to June 30, 2028.
The approval followed a recommendation by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to prevent a leadership succession gap and give the respective boards of the two agencies adequate time to appoint successors.
Tinubu commended the service chiefs for the reforms recorded under their leadership and urged them to sustain and consolidate the achievements.
Nwakuche was nominated by the President as Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service in December 2024, with his appointment confirmed by the Senate in March 2025.
Similarly, Nandap was nominated as Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service on February 21, 2024, and confirmed by the Senate on March 1, 2024.
The extension is expected to ensure leadership continuity in both agencies while the necessary succession arrangements are put in place.
