Turkish football commentator Volkan Demirel has described Galatasaray forward Victor Osimhen as a striker operating above some of the biggest names to have played in the Turkish Super Lig.
Demirel made the remarks following Galatasaray’s reported 4–1 defeat to Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League, praising the Nigerian international’s quality and impact.
According to comments quoted by Turkish publication Sami Yen Gündem, Demirel said Osimhen stood apart from several high-profile forwards who have played in Turkey, including former Fenerbahçe striker Nicolas Anelka.
“After this, a man of this caliber won’t come along either. Of course, many huge stars have passed through these parts before; names like Anelka, Niang, Gomis, Sørloth, and Mario Gomez set foot in this country, but Osimhen is definitely on a whole different level, a very separate tier,” Demirel said.
Osimhen joined Galatasaray after his spell at Italian club Napoli and has continued to attract attention for his performances in Turkish football.
The Nigerian striker’s physical presence, movement and goalscoring ability have made him a key figure for the Istanbul club, while his performances have drawn praise from supporters and football observers.
Demirel’s assessment places Osimhen ahead of several established names in Turkish football, although the claim remains his personal opinion rather than an official historical ranking.
