Rivers United goalkeeper Ani Ozoemena is back to full training after surgery, as the club continues its chase for a second Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title.
The shot-stopper, who had been sidelined by an injury requiring surgery, has returned to group training with his teammates as he prepares to make a full recovery.
The news is a boost for Rivers United coach Finidi George, whose team is aiming to finish as runners-up in the 2026/27 NPFL season. The Port Harcourt-based club narrowly missed out on the title last season, finishing second to Rangers International, and is eager to improve on its performance this campaign.
According to reports, Ozoemena has made a swift return to full training after undergoing successful surgery. His return to the pitch is expected to be a big boost to Rivers United, which currently sits second in the NPFL table with 15 points.
The goalkeeper, who has been with the club since 2021, played seven matches for Rivers United in the NPFL last season before his injury. He was also part of Nigeria U-20 squad for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), but was forced to withdraw from the tournament due to a knee injury.
Ozoemena’s return to full training comes at a crucial time for Rivers United, which is looking to finish as one of the top teams in the NPFL. Finidi’s team is set to host Abia Warriors in an NPFL Matchday Eight clash this Sunday, October 11.
While Ozoemena’s return to the pitch is a positive development for Rivers United, the coaching staff will be keen to ensure he makes a full recovery before returning to action.
The goalkeeper’s return to action is a positive sign for both him and Rivers United as the team continues its chase for the NPFL title.
