Jude Chiemeka, Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX), has been elected President of the African Securities Exchanges Association (ASEA), effective September 30, 2026.
Chiemeka succeeds Pierre Célestin Rwabukumba, Chief Executive Officer of the Rwanda Stock Exchange, who previously served as president of the continental association.
His election is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s role in efforts to promote greater integration and cooperation among African securities exchanges, particularly as markets across the continent seek to improve liquidity, attract investment and reduce barriers to cross-border transactions.
Chiemeka also serves as Chairman of the West African Capital Markets Integration Council (WACMIC), where he has been involved in initiatives aimed at improving connectivity among capital markets in the West African region.
As the new president of ASEA, Chiemeka is expected to focus on initiatives that promote stronger links between African exchanges, facilitate cross-border investment and improve market efficiency.
The association is also looking to expand inter-exchange trading and cross-listing arrangements, allowing investors and companies to participate more easily in markets outside their home jurisdictions.
Commenting on his election, Chiemeka said he would build on the progress achieved under his predecessor while pursuing initiatives capable of making African capital markets more interconnected.
“It is a privilege to lead the African Securities Exchanges Association at a time when capital market integration and technology-driven innovation are paramount to unlocking Africa’s economic potential,” he said.
Chiemeka added that ASEA would continue to push for stronger frameworks for cross-border investment, deeper liquidity pools and sustainable finance initiatives among its member exchanges.

Technology is also expected to play a central role during his tenure, with the association seeking to encourage the adoption of digital solutions and modern market infrastructure to improve operational efficiency and broaden participation in capital markets.
ASEA is equally expected to pursue measures aimed at increasing capital flows within the continent and strengthening connections between African markets and international institutional investors. Greater participation by domestic investors will also remain an important objective.
The association plans to support sustainable finance initiatives by encouraging greater alignment of environmental, social and governance standards and promoting green bond listings across member exchanges.
Chiemeka brings more than three decades of experience in the capital markets to the role, having worked across securities trading, asset management and investment banking. His career has also included participation in regional market initiatives and major capital-market transactions.
Rwabukumba congratulated Chiemeka on his election and expressed confidence in his ability to lead the association into its next phase.
Reflecting on his tenure, the outgoing president said leading ASEA had been an honour and noted the progress made in strengthening relationships among African exchanges.
Chiemeka’s appointment comes at a significant period for Africa’s capital markets, with exchanges across the continent seeking to overcome market fragmentation, improve liquidity and establish more efficient channels for cross-border investment.
His leadership is expected to give Nigeria a stronger voice in these ongoing efforts to deepen financial-market integration across Africa.
