Nigeria’s Super Eagles have slipped four places in the latest FIFA men’s world rankings released on Wednesday, falling from 26th to 30th position globally.
The drop also affected Nigeria’s standing on the African continent, with the three-time African champions moving from fourth to sixth place among CAF nations.
The Super Eagles now trail Morocco, Egypt, Senegal, Algeria and Côte d’Ivoire in the continental rankings.
The latest decline follows a mixed international window for Éric Chelle’s side, who recorded one win, one draw and one defeat across three matches.
Nigeria began the period with a 2-1 victory over Madagascar in a 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier before suffering a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau.
The Super Eagles, however, ended the international break on a positive note, coming from behind to secure an entertaining 3-3 draw against Russia in an international friendly on Tuesday.
The recent results have impacted Nigeria’s ranking points, leading to the slide in both the global and African standings.
Despite the setback, the Super Eagles remain among Africa’s top-ranked national teams and will be aiming to improve their position in future FIFA ranking updates through stronger performances in upcoming AFCON qualifiers and international fixtures.
With qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations still a priority, Chelle and his players will be hoping to quickly regain momentum and climb back up the FIFA rankings in the coming months.
