The National Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Mary Idele, has been appointed Director-General of the party’s Women Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections.
First Lady Oluremi Tinubu announced the appointment during the pre-inauguration of the APC Women Mobilisation Directorate in Abuja.
Idele, who disclosed the development while speaking with journalists in Abuja, said the appointment had placed her at the centre of the party’s efforts to mobilise women ahead of the 2027 presidential election and support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
She said the Women Presidential Campaign Council would engage women’s groups, market associations, professional organisations, community groups and other grassroots networks across the country.
According to her, the council would also focus on countering misinformation, promoting issue-based campaigns and highlighting government policies and programmes that have benefited women, families and communities.
Idele said she had already been involved in efforts to increase women’s participation in the APC and promote their inclusion in political activities.
She said the new assignment would build on the party’s existing women mobilisation structures and turn them into a stronger grassroots campaign network ahead of the 2027 elections.
The APC women leader said her appointment would further strengthen the party’s efforts to harness the numerical strength and organisational capacity of women.
She added that the campaign council would work closely with APC women leaders and other stakeholders nationwide to mobilise support for Tinubu, strengthen grassroots structures and encourage more women to participate actively in the electoral process.
