Portugal national team coach Jorge Jesus has declined to make any further comments after reading Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent public statement detailing their dispute.
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday morning while heading to the Portuguese Football Federation headquarters, Jesus confirmed that he had read the lengthy statement released by the Portugal captain.
“I read the statement and now, like I do every day, I’m going to the Federation headquarters to work, to think about the Portuguese national team,” Jesus said, according to a post by Fabrizio Romano on X.
“I have nothing more to say.”
Ronaldo’s statement, published on Tuesday, outlined his version of the events that led to his departure from Portugal’s national team camp during the recent international window.
The 41-year-old accused Jesus of breaking his word on two occasions. Ronaldo claimed the coach failed to introduce him during Portugal’s UEFA Nations League clash against Norway despite warming him up, and later failed to publicly communicate points they had allegedly agreed upon during a private meeting.
Despite the public disagreement, Jesus has previously insisted that no lasting rift exists between him and the veteran forward, maintaining that Ronaldo remains available for future national team selection.
Earlier on Tuesday, Jesus revealed that he had not yet read Ronaldo’s statement because he was occupied watching Portugal’s Under-21 team in action.
His latest comments suggest the Portugal coach has no intention of prolonging the controversy as attention shifts back to the national team’s future preparations.
