The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has said the uploading of its approved party logo by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has removed the uncertainty surrounding the campaign activities of its candidates.
NDC leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, said this in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, following a High Court judgment affirming the party’s logo as approved by its National Executive Committee (NEC).
Dickson commended the judiciary, INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, and officials of the commission for complying with the court’s decision.
He also praised the NDC National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, members of the NEC, candidates and other party members for their efforts in resolving the matter.
According to him, the approval and uploading of the logo would allow NDC candidates to produce campaign materials and begin consultations and campaigns across the country.
Dickson said the party remained committed to participating fully in the electoral process, adding that it had resisted attempts to use the courts to undermine its political activities.
He urged all NDC candidates to work closely with the party at every level when setting up their campaign teams, stressing that they were contesting under the party and not as independent candidates.
The NDC leader also warned candidates against actions that could undermine the party’s collective efforts as campaigns gather momentum.
He urged party members to disregard what he described as propaganda, misinformation and rumours intended to create divisions within the organisation.
Dickson said the NDC was founded on a commitment to democratic values and would continue to defend Nigerians’ democratic rights and promote multiparty democracy.
He called on all party candidates to take their campaign messages to Nigerians across the country without fear or intimidation.
