PH Refinery Staff Protest Salary Delay

Support staff of the Port Harcourt Refining Company Limited (PHRCL) have commenced a protest over delays in implementing a new salary structure and other outstanding welfare benefits.

The protest is being led by the Support Staff Union of Port Harcourt Refining Company Limited, SUPSUPHAR, following the non-implementation of a new salary and remuneration package scheduled to take effect on October 1, 2026.

In a notice issued to management on October 2, the union said it would embark on a peaceful protest and industrial action over the unresolved issues.

The workers are also demanding payment of outstanding salaries and other entitlements owed to them.

They are further seeking approval of a one-time one-million-naira housing or rent relief for eligible support staff.

The union also called for improved engagement between management and recognised labour representatives on matters concerning workers’ welfare.

The protest is ongoing as the workers await management’s response to their demands.

More details shortly.
