The Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, Rivers State Branch, has called for improved welfare and safety for doctors and other health workers in the state.
The association also raised concerns over workplace assaults and the provision of accommodation for medical personnel serving in rural areas.
The NMA Chairman, Dr. Ureh Annabel Oparaodu, led the delegation during a courtesy visit to the Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Health, Dr. Vincent Wachukwu.
In a statement issued by the association’s Public Relations Officer, Dr. Duukori Thankgod, the NMA commended the state government for investments in healthcare infrastructure, including the Omoku Zonal Hospital and Rumuigbo Neuropsychiatry Hospital.
The association also decorated the Permanent Secretary as an ambassador and invited him to serve as Chief Host of the 2026 Physicians’ Week.
Responding, Dr. Wachukwu pledged continued collaboration with the NMA and assured the delegation that the concerns raised were being addressed.
He added that all newly commissioned health facilities now have fully furnished staff quarters.
