Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has urged residents of the state to embrace peace and unity, describing them as essential pillars for any society’s socioeconomic development. In a goodwill message marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, the Governor said the celebration offers an opportunity to reflect on the nation’s journey since 1960 and to renew commitment to peaceful coexistence.
Fubara described Rivers State as the “treasure base of the nation” and a melting pot of diverse ethnic groups, noting that the state has always thrived when its people lived harmoniously.
He stressed that meaningful development cannot occur in an atmosphere of rancour, division, or political hostility, adding that while political differences are a normal part of democracy, they should never be allowed to undermine the state’s collective interest.
“We may disagree as politicians, but we must never disagree on the peace and progress of Rivers State,” he said.
The Governor emphasized that his administration has made peace the foundation of its governance philosophy since taking office, calling it the state’s most invaluable form of infrastructure. He noted that the relative peace Rivers State currently enjoys has enabled his government to attract investment and execute projects across all three senatorial districts.
Fubara appealed to youths, traditional rulers, political leaders, and other stakeholders to serve as ambassadors of peace within their communities, wards, and local government areas, stressing that no one benefits when the state descends into crisis. He also urged Rivers residents to continue supporting the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that national unity and cooperation between the federal and state levels remain critical to achieving the goals of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
