The National Spokesman of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide, Comr. Victor Ibanigo, has paid a thank-you visit to the IYC Bille Clan Council to appreciate the clan’s support and solidarity during the recently concluded IYC elections.
During the visit, Ibanigo also expressed his condolences to the people of Bille over the death of Joy Amos, a 29-year-old indigene who reportedly sustained severe burns following a gas explosion in the community on September 3, 2026. She later died on September 22 while receiving treatment in Port Harcourt.
The IYC spokesman described the incident as deeply concerning, particularly against the backdrop of the ongoing gas crisis in Bille.

Gas has reportedly been seeping and bubbling through wells, waterways, residential areas and other parts of the community, raising concerns over public safety and the environment.
Ibanigo assured the people of Bille that the IYC Worldwide, under the leadership of Dr. Doubara Oketete, was closely monitoring the situation.
He said the council would, in the coming days, issue a clear position on the crisis and take appropriate steps within its mandate to demand urgent attention and meaningful intervention from relevant authorities.
The IYC National Spokesman reaffirmed the council’s solidarity with the people of Bille and its commitment to advocating for the safety, welfare, environmental protection, and fundamental rights of Ijaw communities.
