The Rivers State Government has inspected Community Secondary School, Rumuapara, following public concerns over flooding and the deteriorating condition of the institution.
The inspection was carried out jointly by the state Ministries of Education and Environment after a video circulated online showing parts of the school premises submerged in floodwater.
The video, shared by a concerned resident, also drew attention to the challenges faced by students and teachers as they carry out teaching and learning activities in the affected environment.

The inspection team was led by the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Peters Nwagor; Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Mina Tele Ikuru; and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Barrister Ishmael Tomonialadieokuma.
Other directors and officials from both ministries joined the visit to assess the extent of the flooding and its impact on school infrastructure, students, teachers and academic activities.
During the assessment, the government said attention would not only be given to the immediate flooding but also to the drainage system and possible causes of the recurring situation.
The ministries said the findings would form the basis for measures aimed at addressing the problem in the short, medium and long term.
A comprehensive report is expected to guide the proposed interventions.
The state government reaffirmed its commitment to providing students and teachers with a safe and conducive learning environment, while seeking measures to prevent future flooding at the school.
