NPFL Officially Postpones Rivers United vs Warri Wolves Clash Amid CAFCL Match

‎The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has postponed the Matchday Two fixture between Rivers United and Warri Wolves to allow the Port Harcourt-based club to concentrate on its CAF Champions League campaign.

‎Rivers United were originally scheduled to face Warri Wolves on September 13, 2026, but the league authorities have adjusted the fixture following the club’s continental engagement against Ivorian side San Pedro.

‎The decision is aimed at giving Rivers United adequate time to prepare for the crucial CAF Champions League second-leg encounter after the Nigerian representatives secured a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Côte d’Ivoire. Douglas Iyowuna scored Rivers United’s equaliser, leaving the tie finely balanced ahead of the return fixture.

‎Rivers United will host San Pedro at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, with qualification for the next round of the competition at stake. The club had already called on supporters to turn out in large numbers for the decisive encounter.

‎The postponement means Rivers United can focus fully on securing progression in Africa without the additional pressure of a domestic league fixture being played within the same period.

‎The club began the 2026/27 NPFL season positively, recording a 2-0 victory over Plateau United in their opening league game.

‎The clash with Warri Wolves will now be rescheduled by the NPFL to a new date, which will be communicated by the league organisers.

‎For Rivers United, attention is firmly on San Pedro as they seek to turn their first-leg draw into qualification. A victory in Uyo would send the Nigerian side through to the next stage and keep their hopes of reaching the CAF Champions League group stage alive.

‎The postponement therefore provides Rivers United with valuable preparation time as Finidi George and his players target continental progress before returning their attention to domestic competition.
