The early hours of Wednesday morning got off to a fruitful start for Rivers United after dispatching their local counterpart, Echeleche FC, 3-0 in a locally arranged friendly match at Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt.
Kick-off for the match staged September 9th, 2026 at 08:00 am WAT was the moment Pride of Rivers stepped up training routines in readiness for the new season.
Rivers United controlled affairs and opened the goal in the 23rd minute via a finish from Shola Oladunjoye.

The Port Harcourt-based outfit extended their lead shortly before halftime, with Samson Olasupo adding to the scoreline in the 40th minute to register a 2-0 advantage in favor of Finidi George’s lads before hitting a hat-trick in the 60th minute via Olasupo’s solo brilliance.

This win adds to Rivers United’s warm-up matches ahead of the new season, where coach Finidi George is still looking at finalising his squad for competitions including the Nigerian Premier League, President’s Cup, as well as CAF Champions League fixtures.
