Residents of Aleto Community in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State have raised concerns over a persistent gas leak from a manifold in the area.
The residents alleged that the company operating the facility has shown little concern over the incident and has not provided adequate information on measures being taken to stop the leakage.
Speaking with our correspondent, the Youth President of Aleto Clan, Ebie Nwoke, said the community leadership notified relevant government agencies and regulatory bodies shortly after the incident was reported.
Nwoke, however, said no concrete action had been taken to permanently stop the gas leak.

He confirmed that the affected area had been cordoned off but expressed concern that the continued release of gas could pose a danger to residents and potentially trigger a fire outbreak if urgent measures were not taken.
An eyewitness and another resident also expressed concern over the situation, calling for immediate intervention to prevent the incident from escalating.
The residents are urging the relevant authorities and the company operating the facility to take urgent steps to address the leak and ensure the safety of people living in the community.
