Reacting to the development, OPay’s Vice-President, Public and Government Affairs, Dr Maxwell Loko, described the viral message as false, malicious and misleading.
Loko cautioned customers against withdrawing their funds based on the fabricated information, urging them to rely only on the company’s verified platforms for official announcements.
He further warned that deliberate dissemination of false information capable of causing panic or damaging confidence in a financial institution could have legal consequences.

OPay reiterated that it remains operational and that customers can continue to use its services as usual.
