Gov Wike blames police for poor security during the bye election

Rivers State Governor NYESOM WIKE has expressed concern over the inability of the police to provide adequate security in just eight wards of Port Harcourt constituency three during the inconclusive bye-election.

Governor NYESOM WIKE expressed the concern when he received the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria KETIL KARLSEN who visited him at the Government House, Port Harcourt.

The Governor expressed fears that the police may not be able to protect electorates in the state during the 2019 general elections.

“just one hundred and forty two units in eight word a free and fair election cannot be conducted it so embarrassing he said.

The Rivers state Governor Nyesom Wike said as a government it will continue to support free and fair elections with violent free.

The European Union Ambassador to Nigeria KETIL KARLSEN for his part commended INEC for suspending the election after the violence that marred the Port Harcourt State Constituency Three bye-election.

KETIL KARLSEN said its core aim for the visit is to promote youth participation in elections and also make sure that no violence will mar the February and March general election in 2019.

“what INEC have demonstrated is a true representation of democracy and we hope that come 2019 it will be free, fair and credible general elections he said.

You will recall that on August 18th the Independent National Electoral commission INEC suspended the Phalga constituency three Bye-elections.

The INEC resident commissioner OBO EFFANGA said the suspension follows the violence that erupted during the elections in some units.
