A Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) officer identified as Joseph Ali has reportedly died after a locally fabricated rifle he was handling accidentally discharged and struck him in the left eye in Abuja.
The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. in Compensation Layout, Old Kutunku, while Ali was preparing to leave his residence for work.
According to a police signal, Ali had dressed for duty and picked up the rifle, which he reportedly used to provide security in the community, intending to conceal it before leaving.
He was allegedly unaware that the firearm was cocked. The rifle reportedly discharged as he picked it up, with pellets striking him in the left eye.

The incident occurred in the presence of his wife and children.
Ali was immediately rushed to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH), where a doctor on duty reportedly confirmed him dead.
His remains were deposited at the hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.
The case has been referred to the Department of Criminal Investigation for further investigation, with authorities expected to provide additional updates.
