This is the season of Carrots. And everywhere you go around the city, you will find young Hausa men hawking the vegetable in wheelbarrows and trucks.
The presence of Carrots also reminds me, as a Natural Health promoter, that all is not well with many of our young ladies. It’s common to find many young girls these days missing their monthly visitor(menstruation). This natural monthly blood flow helps regulate the woman’s hormones and shows that she is fertile, at least to give birth.
In medical terms, it’s called Amenorrhea and Dysmenorrhea. These simply mean missing a monthly period or absence of a monthly period within the age range of 15- 45 years. Any woman within this age range experiencing this malaise should consult a medical doctor.
On the other hand, nature has equally provided a cure, and carrots, according to Dr. Dincin Buchman, can regulate menses and balance hormones. So try to eat enough this season.
Aside from carrots, food experts have done research and discovered that one of the major causes of Amenorrhea and Dysmenorrhea can be diet. Poor diet, especially those from processed foods, can wreak havoc on a woman’s body and lead to hormonal imbalance.

Signs and Symptoms: Dr. Natasha Turner, a natural health doctor, observed, ” Unless you’re going through menopause, if you’re having these, then your hormones are not balanced.”
She further observed, ” Too much oestrogen causes weight gain, water retention, bloating and a host of other health challenges in (women)”.
So if you have too much oestrogen, it can lead to heavy menses, or absence, FIBROID as well.
Dr. Carolyn Dean noted that too little oestrogen can make you suffer symptoms like hot flashes, MOOD SWINGS, vision changes and memory loss.
SOLUTION: What you eat matters. For instance, a diet high in saturated fat and excess caffeine (coffee, tea and alcohol) can stimulate high oestrogen. A woman’s body needs a lot of Vitamin B complex, magnesium, zinc, and other essential minerals.
Good and natural foods remain key to balancing hormones and having regular and pain-free periods. And that is why natural health experts advise women to eat less processed foods like Bread, Biscuits, Ice cream, cake, and packaged foods
