Veteran Nollywood actor Sunday Afolabi has publicly disclosed the extent of the severe financial challenges he has faced in recent years, detailing a transition from a career in television to survival through menial labor.
The actor shared his experiences during a recent appearance on Talk to B, a digital talk show hosted by actress Biola Adebayo. Afolabi explained that his current predicament stemmed from a decision to relocate from Lagos to Badagry for long-term property development. He noted that the geographical shift inadvertently severed his professional ties to the core of the Nigerian film industry, leading to a prolonged absence of acting roles.
The resulting loss of income forced the actor to liquidate his personal assets, including a vehicle, to cover basic living expenses. Afolabi revealed that he attempted to diversify his income by pivoting to photography, but the venture collapsed after his equipment became faulty and he lacked the capital for repairs. In a bid to sustain his family, he subsequently resorted to various forms of manual labor, including working as a commercial minibus driver and a vocational laborer.

During the interview, the actor expressed the emotional toll of his circumstances, citing instances of public humiliation from individuals who recognized him from his past screen roles. He emphasized that he chose these demanding roles over public solicitation, despite the physical hazards and social stigma associated with his current situation.
In response to the actor’s testimony, show host Biola Adebayo initiated a formal appeal for assistance from the public and the creative community. The campaign seeks to secure stable urban accommodation for Afolabi and provide a reliable vehicle to facilitate his return to a sustainable livelihood.
