X Ends Revenue Sharing, Introduces Original Content Rewards

X has ended new enrolments into its Revenue Sharing programme and introduced the Original Content Rewards Programme to pay creators for original ideas, reporting, expertise, creativity and commentary shared on the platform.

In a statement released by X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, the company said existing Revenue Sharing participants would continue earning until September 7, 2026, after which they would be able to apply for the new Original Content Rewards Programme, subject to meeting its eligibility requirements.

Under the new programme, eligible creators will earn from qualified impressions generated by their original content, with payments made every two weeks. X said the first payout under the programme will be issued on August 28, 2026.

X said qualified impressions will be unique views from Premium users on the Home Timeline, where at least 50 per cent of a post is visible. Paid, promoted, artificially generated, fraudulent and repeated impressions from the same account will not count.

To qualify, creators must be at least 18 years old, live in a country where the programme is available, have an account in good standing and maintain a Personal or Business account. They must also subscribe to X Premium, Premium+ or Premium Business.

Creators are required to have at least 500 verified followers and 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users within the previous 90 days. X also requires participants to regularly post original content and apply through Creator Studio.

The company said original content includes original writing, threads, articles, reporting, analysis, photographs, videos, memes, graphics and commentary that adds meaningful value to an existing conversation.

X said content copied or substantially reproduced from another creator, reuploaded material that the user did not create, automated content and misleading or harmful material will not qualify for payment. Content that violates its rules or copyright policy will also be excluded.

The company said the new programme is intended to reward creators whose own ideas, expertise, reporting, analysis and creativity provide the main value of their posts. Existing Revenue Sharing creators will begin receiving access to apply for Original Content Rewards from September 8, 2026, provided they meet the programme’s requirements.
