Trans Niger Pipeline Eastern Corridor Records Uninterrupted Operations

Operations along the Eastern corridor of the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP) and the Eastern Gas Network are said to have ran largely without interruption over the past month, with the Emohua zone recording no case of infraction or vandalism during the period under review.

The record was given at the August 2026 Stakeholders Engagement Forum in Port Harcourt, convened by Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL), the integrated pipeline infrastructure company responsible for the Eastern corridor of the TNP.

General Manager, Community and Stakeholder Relations at PINL, Akpos Mezeh, said isolated cases of sabotage, attempted vandalism and equipment failure occurred during the period, but that rapid response teams restored affected facilities while security agencies arrested suspects linked to some incidents.

Head of Field Operations, Eastern Corridor, at the NNPC Limited Project Monitoring Office, Akponime Omojevwhe, confirmed the Emohua record and commended the zone.

He appealed to host communities to sustain the partnership, noting that dependable national infrastructure translates directly into national income.

Mezeh said investment on that scale depends on lines that stay in service, and that collaboration with host communities, traditional rulers and security agencies has been one of the most critical factors in the corridor’s stability.

Paramount Ruler of Emohua Kingdom, His Majesty, Ohna Sergeant Awuse, said the company’s engagement model had changed the terms of operation in the sector.

“Before now, we only heard stories of vandalism. But you have ensured the safety of those pipelines,” he said.

PINL announced that its scholarship scheme for students from host communities will run annually for the duration of its Federal Government contract, alongside expanded youth and women empowerment, entrepreneurship and skills acquisition programmes.

Meanwhile, Youth leaders from the Niger Delta have urged the Federal Government and the Ogoni Dialogue Committee to adopt the community engagement model used along the Eastern corridor of the Trans Niger Pipeline as the basis for resuming oil production in Ogoniland.

The Niger Delta Ethnic Youth Leaders Forum said the model, developed by Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL), the integrated pipeline infrastructure company responsible for the Eastern corridor of the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP) and the Eastern Gas Network, offers a working template for the dialogue process now under way.

Legborsi Yamaabana, spokesman for the group and President-General of the Ogoni Youths Federation, said the youths are not opposing the resumption of production, but want to be brought fully into the process. The Ogoni oil fields have been shut in for 33 years.

“There is a model that PINL has adopted and implemented in the Niger Delta, and that model is working. It is a model of constructive engagement, of inclusion, of carrying the host community along,” he said. “In all of this dialogue, the youths of Ogoniland have been excluded. If those driving the Ogoni re-entry lack ideas, they should go and meet PINL for the model they are using to succeed.”

He said the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline, designed to move 30 billion cubic metres of gas a year from Nigeria to Morocco and now covered by a sovereign framework agreed by ECOWAS Heads of State, depends on the same conditions. “World-class energy infrastructure can only thrive where pipelines are secure, communities are peaceful, and stakeholders work together,” Mezeh said.

Akponime Omojevwhe of the NNPC Limited Project Monitoring Office commended the Emohua zone for recording no case of infraction or vandalism during the period under review.

Traditional rulers at the meeting, including the paramount rulers of Emohua and Eleme kingdoms, said the engagement model had changed the terms of oil and gas operation in the region, and urged the company to sustain it.
