Andrés Iniesta wants Super Eagles Star Victor Osimhen at Barcelona

Spanish football legend Andrés Iniesta has urged Barcelona to make a move for Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, describing the Nigerian forward as the ideal player to spearhead the Catalan club’s attack following the departure of veteran striker Robert Lewandowski.

‎Barcelona are reportedly in the market for a new centre-forward ahead of the 2026/27 season, with Atlético Madrid’s Julián Álvarez initially identified as the club’s preferred target.

However, Atlético are unwilling to sanction the Argentine’s departure, prompting the Spanish giants to consider alternative options.

‎Iniesta believes Osimhen possesses the qualities needed to thrive at the Camp Nou, citing the Nigerian’s pace, physical presence, clinical finishing and ability to lead the line at the highest level.

The former Barcelona and Spain midfielder sees the 27-year-old as a player capable of fitting seamlessly into Hansi Flick’s attacking philosophy.

‎Osimhen has enjoyed an outstanding spell with Turkish champions Galatasaray, establishing himself as one of Europe’s most prolific forwards.

Since joining the Istanbul club, the Super Eagles star has registered an impressive 59 goals and 16 assists in 74 appearances across all competitions, performances that have attracted interest from several top European clubs.

‎While Premier League sides, including Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, have previously been linked with the Nigerian international, recent reports suggest that a move to Spain is becoming an increasingly realistic possibility.

Barcelona remain in search of a long-term successor to Lewandowski, and Osimhen is emerging as one of the leading candidates.

‎A transfer for Osimhen would, however, require significant financial commitment, with Galatasaray expected to demand a substantial fee for their prized asset.

Despite the challenges, Iniesta’s endorsement has added weight to the growing calls for Barcelona to pursue the Super Eagles striker.

‎Should the move materialise, Osimhen would become one of the few Nigerian players to wear the famous Barcelona colours, marking another significant milestone in his already remarkable career.
