Nigeria’s Super Falcons produced a stunning attacking display to defeat Egypt 6-2 and secure a place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The defending African champions entered their final Group C fixture knowing victory was essential after suffering an opening defeat to Malawi before reviving their campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Zambia.
Faced with a must-win encounter, the Falcons delivered one of the standout performances of the tournament to keep their title defence alive.
Nigeria made a bright start and took the lead through a penalty converted by captain Asisat Oshoala. Gift Monday doubled the advantage after connecting with a low cross from Rinsola Babajide, but Egypt pulled one back from the penalty spot before half-time to keep the contest alive.

The Super Falcons, however, dominated the second half with an impressive attacking display. Substitute Uchenna Kanu made an instant impact by scoring with her first touch, while further goals from Nigeria ensured the defending champions opened up an unassailable lead. Joy Omewa added the final goal as the Falcons completed an emphatic 6-2 victory over the Pharaohs.
The result sealed Nigeria’s qualification for the knockout stage after a dramatic group campaign in which qualification depended on results elsewhere in the group.
The victory also underlined the resilience of Justine Madugu’s side, who recovered from a disappointing start to remain in contention for a record-extending 11th WAFCON title.
With confidence restored, the Super Falcons now turn their attention to the quarter-finals, where they are set to face Cameroon.
The convincing win over Egypt has renewed optimism among Nigerian supporters that the team can continue its resurgence and mount another successful challenge for continental glory.
