NYSC Mandates NERD Clearance for Corps Members’ Mobilisation

The National Youth Service Corps has cautioned prospective corps members that they will not be enlisted for national service without securing clearance from the National Electronic Registration Database (NERD).

The admonition arrives as the scheme proceeds with preparations to enlist a new intake of prospective corps members, while simultaneously stepping up measures to safeguard their security during journeys to orientation camps.

In an official notice published on its official X account on Monday, the NYSC announced that NERD clearance has become obligatory for all prospective corps members.

The scheme encouraged prospective corps members to finish the procedure promptly to prevent holdups during mobilisation.

It further warned that neglecting to acquire the clearance could postpone enrolment into the national service scheme.

“This is to inform PCMs (Prospective Corps Members) that without NERD clearance, no NYSC. Get your NERD clearance early. Avoid delays in your mobilisation.”

Reaffirming the mandatory nature of the prerequisite, the NYSC stated, “NERD clearance is compulsory for all PCMs. No NERD clearance, No NYSC!!!”

Even though the scheme omitted further particulars regarding the verification process in the announcement, the directive points to a more rigorous screening framework as preparations proceed for the upcoming orientation exercise.

The recent update comes only hours after the NYSC declared the enlistment of another set of prospective corps members for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ service year, advising institutions and qualified graduates to finalize all mandatory documentation prior to the orientation exercise.

It likewise succeeds another recent security guidance from the scheme, in which prospective corps members were cautioned against nocturnal transit to orientation camps.

The NYSC counseled them to divide their travel whenever necessary and stay overnight in secure facilities or designated military and security bases where accessible, instead of risking transit after sunset.

These updated directives demonstrate the management’s push to enhance both the credibility of its enrolment procedures and the protection of prospective corps members, amidst rising safety concerns along Nigerian roadways.

As enlistment proceedings gain momentum, prospective corps members are expected to fulfill all required enrolment and authentication protocols, including the newly highlighted NERD clearance, prior to arriving at the orientation camp.
