Rivers United Complete the Signing of Ani Chigozie from Niger Tornadoes

Rivers United have reportedly completed the signing of highly-rated Midfielder Ani Chigozie from Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Niger Tornadoes as the Port Harcourt club continues to strengthen its squad ahead of the new football season.

‎The move is expected to bolster Rivers United’s Midfield options as the club prepares for both domestic and continental assignments.

Although neither club has officially confirmed the transfer, sources close to the deal indicate that an agreement has been reached, with Chigozie set to join the former NPFL champions after impressing during his time with Niger Tornadoes.

‎Chigozie earned a reputation as one of the league’s dependable midfielders, thanks to his composed performances, aerial dominance, and ability to read the game.

His consistency at the heart of Niger Tornadoes’ Midfield attracted interest from several top-flight clubs, but Rivers United are believed to have won the race for his signature.

‎The acquisition forms part of Rivers United’s ongoing recruitment drive aimed at building a competitive squad capable of challenging for major honours in the upcoming campaign.

The club has been active in the transfer market, adding quality players across different positions as preparations intensify for the new season.

‎For Niger Tornadoes, Chigozie’s departure represents the loss of an experienced and influential member of the squad. The Minna-based club will now be expected to find a suitable replacement as they look to remain competitive in the NPFL.

‎Supporters of Rivers United will be hopeful that the Midfielder settles quickly and replicates the impressive form that made him one of the standout performers in the Nigerian top flight.

‎An official announcement from Rivers United is expected in the coming days, after which Chigozie is likely to join his new teammates for pre-season training as the club finalises preparations for the 2026/27 NPFL season.
