The Nigerian Navy has found and demolished nine illegal oil refining camps within Rivers State amid efforts to end crude oil theft and the sabotage of the nation’s oil and gas assets.
The exercise was conducted by operatives of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bonny as part of Operation DELTA SENTINEL in Bonny Local Government Area.
As per an operational statement that was issued on Tuesday, the exercise resulted in the identification of 23 dugouts that were being used for illegal refining operations.

Out of these, 18 of them had about 104,000 liters of crude oil suspected to have been stolen, while five others, which were newly dug, were destroyed before they could commence any operations.
According to the Navy, the crackdown was conducted after receiving credible intelligence that there were criminal dens situated inside the Wakama/Bolo and Aworkiri areas.
This raid has caused a serious blow to the criminals stealing crude oil from the region as well as their plans of refining illegally.
Additionally, security personnel seized eight pots fabricated by locals used to refine the stolen crude oil, as well as three huge storage tanks.
Navy noted that this operation shows how much it cares about protecting Nigeria’s oil facilities from economic sabotage in the Niger Delta region.
