The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has suspended all activities of its Students’ Union with immediate effect, following a directive from the institution’s management.
A memo dated July 19, 2026, from the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs announced that the decision, approved by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Princewill Chike, affects the union’s executive council, its three arms, hall representatives and every other student union activity. The suspension will remain in place until further notice.
The university directed all affected union officials to hand over every item belonging to the Students’ Union to the Dean of Student Affairs without delay. These include official documents, financial records, keys, identity materials and other union property.

Management also instructed the former student leaders to make themselves available whenever invited by an investigative panel set up to review their activities and stewardship while they were in office.
According to the memo, the panel will examine the administration of the dissolved union as part of the university’s oversight process.
The institution warned that anyone who fails to comply with the handover directive or refuses to appear before the investigative panel when required could face disciplinary measures in line with the university’s regulations.
