The Rivers State Police Command is investigating a possible cult attack on a trader in Diobu, Port Harcourt, and attempts are being made to trace the injured victim, who left the scene after the attack.
This attack, which took place at Bishop Okoye Street Market at Mile 3 on Monday morning, was thwarted after the operatives at the Nkpolu Divisional Police Headquarters intervened upon receiving the distress call before the alleged attackers could achieve their goal.
It was about 7:30 a.m. when the police team under the command of the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Ogbuefi Henry King, rushed to the market after receiving a distress call that about eight cultists were attacking a man known only as Abraham, who works in a grinding business at the market says the Revelation Agent report.
The suspects, who were alleged to have been armed with machetes and a locally made pistol, are said to have chased the trader, forced him to the ground, and gave him machete cuts before they disappeared into the crowd upon seeing the police.

The victim, who had received cuts in one of his ears and other parts of his body, left the scene and has not been traced yet.1
Initial investigations indicate that the attack might be in connection with the refusal of the victim to pay the illegal fee, popularly referred to as “matching ground,” by the cultists.
In the same vein, the command said its men from Nkpolu Police Division quickly reacted to the incident, disarmed the attackers and has since secured the scene.
It was disclosed that the police were still making frantic effort to arrest the fleeing culprits, trace and attend to the wounded trader and conduct a proper investigation in order to make sure that the perpetrators of the crime will be duly prosecuted.
The command further called on the residents to give useful information which would help in tracing the suspects.
