The Niger Delta has been praised as the reason behind Nigeria’s ability to cut down on crude oil theft, improve oil production, and safeguard its oil infrastructure due to better surveillance in the region.
Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd, in conjunction with government security agencies, has been at the heart of these efforts ever since it was contracted by the Federal Government for this purpose.
According to stakeholders, the operations of Tantita have led to a reduction in the acts of pipeline vandalism, enhanced oil production, and community stability.
During a two-day National Dialogue on Pipeline Security in Abuja, recently, it was observed that the Nigerian pipelines were deemed to be crucial national assets and thus the need for the government to maintain the existing coordination structure for surveillance was emphasized.
Failure to maintain the security framework or even introducing uncoordinated parties would mean new threats for the nation.
In recognition of Tantita’s services in safeguarding the oil facilities, the House of Representatives Committee on Host Communities, among others, lauded the company and sought renewal of their surveillance contract.
In addition, the host community leaders insisted on the need for the security of oil facilities in order to promote development.
While ensuring its mission is facilitated, Tantita has entered into a partnership agreement with Textron Systems from the U.S. to purchase three Aerosonde Mk. 4.7 drones that have the capability of vertical takeoff and landing.
