The Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Dr. Gift Worlu, has promised to enhance the level of collaboration in the area of promoting consumers’ rights, competition and good business practice within the local government.
Worlu made this promise on Thursday, July 9, 2026, when he received the FCCPC Zonal Director for Southern Nigeria, Ucheabu Chukwuma and others from the commission’s delegation on a courtesy visit to the local government council secretariat.
The LG boss referred to the visit as a very important step towards enhancing partnership between the two institutions, adding that protecting the consumers is key to sustainable economic development and good governance.
He promised to assist efforts geared towards educating residents of the local government about their rights as consumers, regulation and promotion of competitiveness among businesses in the local government.
According to the chairman, enhanced partnership between his local government and FCCPC would guarantee responsible business operations and consumers protection.
Previously, Chukwuma had explained that the Commission was looking to forge stronger ties with local government councils in order to increase awareness about consumer protection issues, and also enforce the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act.
Chukwuma congratulated the Chairman on his developmental activities and was optimistic that this collaboration would lead to more consumer education.
