Nigeria Needs God-Fearing Leaders – Gov Fubara

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has said Nigeria needs leaders who fear God to move the nation in the right direction and achieve lasting progress.

According to the governor, many of the country’s current challenges stem from the absence of God-fearing individuals in leadership positions. He said leaders who truly fear God would recognize moral boundaries and act with greater responsibility.

“Our country is where it is today because we lack the fear of God. If you have the fear of God, there should be a limit to what you can do because you understand the supremacy of God. But when God is not in your equation, you’ll go beyond the line, and that is what has brought us to where we are today,” Fubara said.

He also emphasized that religion should not be limited to defending one’s faith but should inspire actions that positively transform society.

The governor linked issues such as corruption, poverty, crime, and social inequality to the lack of God-fearing leaders capable of making decisions that benefit the people. Fubara further stressed the importance of creating a society where ordinary Nigerians can afford quality education for their children, access good healthcare, and earn wages that guarantee a decent standard of living.

He noted that when workers can meet their basic needs, including owning a home after years of employment, the temptation to engage in criminal activities would be greatly reduced. “If the wages people earn can provide quality healthcare and, after working for 15 to 20 years, enable them to own a home, why should they engage in crime? At that point, they will feel secure, and the fear and uncertainty about the future that fuel many social vices will no longer exist,” he added.

Fubara made the remarks on Thursday while receiving the World President of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Pastor Erton Kohler, alongside his wife, Adriene Marques Kohler, their daughter, Mariana Marques Kohler, and other senior ministers of the church at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
