‎MTN Nigeria Partners First WATT On 34MW Renewable Energy Rollout‎

First WATT Renewable Limited and MTN Nigeria have unveiled a strategic partnership focused on renewable energy infrastructure aimed at decreasing reliance on diesel, enhancing operational resilience at MTN’s essential facilities, and providing renewable energy systems to facilitate electric vehicle charging infrastructure at selected MTN sites in Nigeria.

‎The initiative consists of two primary project components.

The first component is an Energy-as-a-Service deployment that will deliver approximately 34 MWp of solar photovoltaic generation capacity and 40 MWh of battery energy storage across various MTN facilities nationwide.

These facilities include data centers, switch facilities, cable landing stations, customer service centers, and other critical network locations.

‎The second component involves supplying renewable energy infrastructure to support 60 kW EV charging stations at eight MTN facilities situated in Ikoyi, Matori, Ojota, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Asaba, Kano, and Ibadan.

‎Collectively, these components aim to diminish reliance on diesel-powered systems, reduce operational emissions, enhance operational uptime, fortify business continuity, and boost the share of renewable energy across MTN’s operational sites, including designated EV charging locations.

‎As the demand for digital services continues to rise, dependable energy infrastructure is essential for the effective functioning of telecommunications networks and the broader digital economy.

This partnership will aid MTN Nigeria in reinforcing the resilience of its critical operations while promoting the use of renewable energy across selected facilities.

This program addresses a crucial requirement for the broader adoption of electric vehicles: a reliable and cleaner energy supply.

‎According to current project projections, the program is anticipated to help avoid an estimated 25,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions (tCO₂e) over a five-year period, contingent upon operational performance and final emissions assessments.
