The Federal Government has inaugurated an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Innovation Hub at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, to strengthen digital skills development and promote innovation among students.
The hub was commissioned on Monday, 8 June 2026, by the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, at a ceremony held within the university campus.
In a statement issued by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), the initiative was described as part of ongoing efforts under the Renewed Hope agenda to expand access to digital infrastructure across tertiary institutions.
The facility was developed in collaboration with NITDA under the Renewed Hope Initiative and is designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry demands.
It is equipped with modern laboratories focused on Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Additive Manufacturing, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
According to the statement, the hub is expected to serve as a training and innovation centre where students can develop practical solutions to real-world challenges.
Dr. Tijani said the project reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to investing in young Nigerians and preparing them for opportunities in the global digital economy.
He added that the facility should be fully utilised by students and researchers to build innovations that can drive national development.
The Minister further noted that government will continue to support initiatives that expand digital access, strengthen innovation ecosystems, and enhance skills development across Nigerian universities.
