Tobi Amusan who’s also known as the Nigeria track queen has won gold in the women’s 100m hurdles at the New Taipei Athletics Open held in Taiwan on Sunday. It was clearly stated that the Nigerian won in a time of 12.72 seconds to finish ahead of Taiwanese duo Bo Ya Zhang, who was in second place in 13.17 seconds, and Yi Po-an, who claimed bronze in 13.37 seconds.
According to the recent report, it is claimed that Amusan’s performance clean the previous meet record and underlined the 29-year-old’s consistency as one of the dominant forces in women’s hurdling on the international circuit.
The report has it that the New Taipei victory claimed by the Nigerian track athlete has added to a string of strong outings this season for the Nigerian. It has however stated earlier during the cost of the campaign, Amusan claimed her first Diamond League win of the season in Rabat, Morocco, clocking 12.28 seconds to break her own meeting record of 12.45 seconds set in 2025.
It is convincing to say that— that moment equalled her season’s best, which she had also posted at the Xiamen Diamond League. However, history has it that before Rabat, Amusan had recorded a third-place finish in Shanghai with 12.41 seconds and a runner-up spot in Xiamen with 12.28 seconds, where she was edged by American hurdler Masai Russell.
As a matter of fact, this season has also included a continental victory for the Nigerian athlete, with her winning gold in the women’s 100 metres hurdles at the African Championships in Accra, helping Nigeria to its first gold medal of the competition.
Record also have it that Tobi Amusan’s 12.28-second performance remains among the fastest times globally this year and ranks as one of the finest of her distinguished career. And at the moment, it is only her world record of 12.12 seconds, set at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, and the 12.24 seconds she clocked at the Meeting de Paris last year stand above it in her personal all-time list.
The 29-year old Nigerian Diamond League champion, Tobi Amusan will be looking forward to reclaim the overall title this season while also preparing for the Diamond League finale and the Commonwealth Games later in the year.
