Bonny Gas Transport Limited, a company owned by Nigeria LNG Limited, has signed contracts regarding the construction of three LNG vessels in line with the company’s plans to renew its fleet.
These contracts have been signed with companies known as Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding and China Shipbuilding Trading Co. Ltd. These are major steps taken in pursuit of the company’s goal to renew its fleet.
It is claimed that the construction of the new vessels will ensure more sustainable activities for the company and enable NLNG to comply with the global emission standards of the European Union.
Additionally, the new vessels will help NLNG maintain its excellent environmental performance level within the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership (OGMP) 2.0.
Each vessel will have a cargo carrying capacity of 174,000 cubic meters and will be fitted with an advanced X-DF propulsion system that enhances fuel economy and reduces emission of harmful gasses to the environment.
These vessels will be delivered in 2029 to be used by NLNG in the carriage of LNG to foreign markets.
The management of the vessels will be taken care of by NLNG Shipping and Marine Services Limited, which is a subsidiary of NLNG charged with shipping and marine activities.
It is expected that with the new acquisitions, Nigeria will be able to improve its capacity for exporting LNG. According to industry insiders, this development has been occasioned by attempts by energy firms to embrace environmental protection measures.
