The Bonny Local Government Legislative Council has commenced the process of enacting two major bye-laws aimed at strengthening fire safety and transportation regulations in the area.
The proposed legislations are: the Bonny Local Government Area Fire Station, Safety and Other Related Matters Bill, 2026, and a bill to amend the Bonny Local Government Transportation Bye-Law No.2 of 2002.
The Council said the move is pursuant to relevant provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and the Rivers State Local Government Law No. 5 of 2018.
In a public notice signed by the Clerk of the House, Bonny Local Government Legislative Council, Mrs. Sopakate Jack, the council disclosed that copies of the proposed bye-laws have been pasted at strategic locations across Bonny for public scrutiny, comments, and contributions.
Residents, groups, and organisations have been invited to submit memoranda or physically attend a Public Hearing scheduled for Friday, June 5, 2026, by 10:00 a.m. at the Legislative Council Gallery, Park Community Road, Bonny.
“Interested individuals, groups, or organisations wishing to comment on the bills should send in their memoranda to the Clerk of the House,” the notice stated.
Those needing detailed copies of the bills for proper study and input have been directed to contact the Clerk at the Legislative Council Complex, Park Community Road, Bonny.
The Council urged all stakeholders to actively participate in the law-making process.
