Nigerian Afrobeat star Burna Boy joined a protest in Oyo State on Tuesday June 2 2026, to demand the immediate release of 40 schoolchildren and teachers abducted last month.
Gunmen attacked schools in the Ahoro-Esinle community of Oriire Local Government Area on May 15, 2026. They kidnapped many students and teachers, most of them young children between the ages of two and 16 ,One teacher died in the attack.
The abduction has brought immense pain to the families ,Mothers struggle to sleep ,Fathers pretend to be strong while they break inside, Classrooms now have empty seats and many families live with fear and uncertainty ,Hundreds of teachers, parents, activists and concerned citizens protested in Ibadan on Monday, June 1.
They carried placards and called on the government and security agencies to act quickly and bring the children home safely ,Burna Boy’s arrival on Tuesday strengthened the protest.
Teachers in Oyo State also began an indefinite strike to press for the release of the victims and better protection for schools ,This incident forms part of a growing pattern of school attacks in Nigeria. Security forces continue operations to find and free those still in captivity.
Many Nigerians demand faster action and lasting solutions to protect schools and communities ,The clear message from the protest is that the children must return home. They deserve safety, education, and the chance to fulfil their dreams.
Families and citizens say they will not be silent until every child comes back.
