The Chief Operating Officer of the Nigeria Premier Football League, Davidson Owumi said that they have two trophies for the last matchday of the 2025/26 season.
The 2025/26 NPFL season is coming to an end on Sunday. The Nigeria Premier Football League title will be decided between Enugu Rangers and Rivers United.
League leaders Enugu Rangers will play Ikorodu City in Lagos at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena. At the time Rivers United will play Katsina United in Port Harcourt.
This is a deal because it is the first time in a long time that the Nigeria Premier Football League title race will go down to the last day. The last time this happened was during the 2023 Super Six playoffs in Lagos when Enyimba won their ninth league title.
People who watch football are used to seeing league trophies being flown to stadiums on the last day of the season in Europe and other parts of the world.. The Nigeria Premier Football League has decided to do things a little differently.
Since both Enugu Rangers and Rivers United can still win the title the Nigeria Premier Football League has put one trophy in Lagos. One in Port Harcourt for the last match on Sunday.
Davidson Owumi was on the radio. He said: “We do not have a replica trophy we have two trophies. One trophy is going to Lagos and the other trophy is going to Port Harcourt.”
He also said: “We already have a stage set up in Lagos and we are setting one up in Port Harcourt. Everything we have in Lagos will be the same in Port Harcourt. We are ready, for whatever happens on Sunday.”
