The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has screened Dr Leloonu Nwibubasa as one of its candidates for the governorship position as it intensified its preparations for the 2027 elections in Rivers State.
This is according to a statement released by the party on Monday night where it was stated that the screening exercise was conducted in Abuja, with aspirants coming from different states such as Adamawa, Delta, Benue, Zamfara, Plateau, Bauchi, Jigawa, Lagos and Nasarawa.
HiAccording to the statement, the party pointed out that the screening process took place as part of its preparation for the coming elections in 2027.
The party added that it conducted screening processes for over 70 governorship aspirants and stated that the screening process was credible, transparent and democratic in nature.
Sen. Mohamed Onawo, who is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Arts, Culture and Creative Economy representing Nasarawa South, applauded the panel that carried out the screening process for their detailed and balanced approach.
Onawo further stated that the screening processes involved the careful perusal of documents by the panel, alongside discussions on pertinent issues of governance and party values.
However, Onawo was also optimistic about the ADC’s chances in the forthcoming governorship election slated for 2027, especially in Nasarawa State due to dissatisfaction in some major political parties.
In addition, the senator supported the use of consensus agreements in the conduct of primaries among parties since the move would help avoid internal wrangling and ensure party solidarity post-primary.Ex-governor of Adamawa State, Senator Mohammed Jibrilla popularly referred to as Bindow, equally commended the screening exercise terming it organised, transparent and intellectually stimulating.
In his opinion, the screening exercise remained professional and conducted in the most professional manner where all the aspirants underwent the same scrutiny from the panelists.
There have been concerted consultations and restructuring efforts by the ADC in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
