The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has suspended a referee over what it described as poor officiating during the Nigeria Premier Football League match between Rangers International and Rivers United.
The decision was made after many people criticized the match, the match had some calls that people thought were not right and affected the outcome. The federation said the referee did not meet the expected standards of being professional and fair in the league.
According to people to the NFF the suspended referee will not officiate NPFL matches until a review of the incident is completed. The football body also said it wants to improve refereeing standards and make people trust football again.
The Rangers versus Rivers United match made many people angry including players, coaches and supporters. Rivers United officials were not happy with some refereeing decisions during the game. Many people in football asked the NFF and league organizers to take action to protect the competition.
