Atiku, Zoning, and Betrayal: Why the ADC’s Collapse Was Inevitable

The ADC has gone berserk. The loss is irreparable. They caused it. All of them. Particularly Atiku Abubakar. I blame Atiku for everything. In 2023, Atiku said that Wike was the reason zoning didn’t work.

Wike has a bad image, so everything said against him was swallowed hook, line, and sinker. But Wike has been vindicated, at least when it comes to the issue of zoning.Buhari did 8 years.

In the interest of fairness, nay, equity, the South should do 8 years. It’s an unwritten agreement, but nobody can deny that it has long been practised, especially since the beginning of the Fourth Republic. But Atiku has no scruples.

He must contest even when it’s the turn of the South. The exit of Mr. Peter Obi from the ADC was caused by Atiku’s unbridled quest for power. I had written that the ADC was the brainchild of Waziri. And my assertion, events have lent credence, is irrefutable.

If the ADC wanted fairness, they would have declared from the outset that its presidential ticket was for the South. But they wanted to be clever by half.

The ousting of Tinubu was their mantra, but equity was never on the agenda.Their subterfuge was apparent, and they thought they could fool everyone. But they never knew that Obi was miles ahead of them.He played a fast one on them, and since his departure, they have been inconsolable.

All the leaders of ADC are enraged. The publicity secretary of the ADC accused Obi of disloyalty. He said Obi never had his mind in the party. To buttress his point, he said Obi doesn’t know the manifesto of the party.Hardly had he finished when Dele Momodu joined in bashing Obi.

He said that Obi was afraid of Atiku but that Okwute stood a good chance of getting the party ticket. No sooner had he finished than Kenneth Okonkwo lampooned Okwute. He accused Obi of cowardice and suggested Obi was incapable of protecting his victory even if he was voted in.

But he didn’t stop there. Kenneth Okonkwo further said that the ADC does not need Obi; on the contrary, Obi needed the ADC.In that statement, Okonkwo, even to himself, knew he was telling an outright lie.If Obi needed the ADC and not the other way round, why have they all been crying?

The truth is that Obi was the golden fleece, the lifeblood of ADC. And his departure meant only one thing: the death of the ADC.But I understand the lamentations of the ADC; what I find inexplicable are the cries of the APC.You say Obi took a bad decision by leaving the ADC.

I think it should make you happy.Rather, what I see is universal crying everywhere.Wike spent a considerable amount of time discussing Obi’s defection.I wonder why a miscalculation should be an object of lamentation rather than of elation. But they know. They know. They all know.

With Kwankwaso in Obi’s camp, 2027 will be hotly contested. The ADC should get used to Obi’s exit. It’s a reality. There is nothing they can do about it except indulge in impotent lamentations.
