Rivers Recruits 1,000 Teachers, Urges Commitment and Professionalism

Newly recruited teachers under the Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board have been urged to remain dedicated, disciplined, and professional in carrying out their responsibilities.

The Commissioner for Education, Peters Nwagor, gave the charge during an orientation programme held for the new teachers at the White Jade Event Center in Port Harcourt.

He described the recruitment exercise as a major investment by the Rivers State Government in the future of education and child development, stressing that basic education remains the bedrock of societal growth.

According to him, teaching goes beyond academic knowledge and requires integrity, dedication, and strong moral values. He reminded the teachers that they have the responsibility of shaping the character and future of young learners across the state.

Nwagor assured the recruits that the Ministry of Education would continue to provide support, training opportunities, and a conducive environment to help them succeed. He also urged them to uphold punctuality, diligence, and professionalism at all times.

Speaking at the event, RSUBEB Chairman, Sam Ogeh, revealed that Governor Siminalayi Fubara approved the continuation of the recruitment process, leading to the employment of 1,000 teachers from over 5,000 applicants.

He advised the successful candidates to resume at their assigned schools and avoid seeking unnecessary redeployments.

Former RSUBEB Chairman, Fineface Akah, noted that the orientation was designed to prepare the teachers for civil service responsibilities and their role in shaping future generations.
